We recognize that as an international conference, our actions have an impact on the environment. We have taken steps to minimize our carbon footprint. Our efforts towards sustainability are based on the 8 R’s principle, which emphasizes reducing, reusing, recycling, repairing, and rethinking our consumption and waste. Catering
- We avoid red meat on the buffet. Vegetarian and vegan options are standard available.
- The caterer updated their menu by removing products considered to have a very negative impact on the environment (e.g. avocado). The ingredients are locally produced where possible.
- As organisers, we closely estimate our food amount through a careful headcount to minimise waste. We create awareness with our attendees to not throw away food. Our caterer serves portions that avoid waste. They distribute unused food after the event.
- Drinks and food are served in reusable plates and glassware.
Waste & Recycling
- We try to avoid waste. We measure the waste we produce, so we can improve this yearly.
- During the conference we optimize waste processing and recycling.
- We reuse leftover swag as marketing materials.
- We donate leftover paper and banners to companies who repurpose them.
- We ask our sponsors to bring recyclable and eco-friendly materials for their booth and for the goodie bags.
Logistics
- We work with suppliers that print without chemical ink and use recycled materials where possible.
- We wash and reuse materials such as staff shirts, lanyards, ...
- We order recycled paper: sticky notes, program booklets, ...
Travel
- We're a remote-first company, and use public transport where possible.
